SkyDiving.... I always wanted to do this,, unfortunately i slipped off a roof in 2002 and busted my ankle real good "blew the ball off the side" which required surgery with pins and screws. Thought my dreams of flying were out the window. But i had a super surgeon/doctor. When he released me after 10 weeks he said my ankle was stronger than the other one,,, Immediately I asked if skydiving was out of the question. I was so amazed when he said go for it! 2 weeks later i made my first jump, a "static line" jump in butler mo. Well i was hooked! Found out that Sullivan Mo could take you to 14,000 ft so started jumping there. Jumped into the summer of 2006 when a bad accident ended my skydiving.. (Read why at the 1st post after the video's below)
My 2nd jump, but 1st of 26 AFF jumps at Sullivan Mo. More to come 14,000 ft, aircraft DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter. Was really cold on this morning,, 58f on the ground at loading time. The temp drops 3f for every 1k you go up! Do the math......Brrrr!

Not a bad practice jump.."I behaved the night before on this one.." Plus the Owner/Big Cheese is in the White Jump Suit. "Jim Cowan" Think this might have been jump 7 or 8, "Can't find my logbook"

Not much to say for this one except, not a good idea to jump with a bad hang,, the results speak for themselves

Bad accident at the drop zone made me decide to cool it on skydiving. In this accident were lost 3 fellow jumpers that i knew. 6 in total bit the dust. On thursday afternoon july 27th, 2006 i was in the am Legion having a cocktail when it occured to me that i was getting close to needing to jump again to stay current. "Must jump at least once in 120 days" So i called Quantaum Leap on my cell, talked to Jim's wife and was set for hopefully for 2 succesfull jumps and my AFF certification, ie "License" I got a call friday about noon, it was Jims wife and she explained she had to bump me to sunday. Rob,, one of my instructors was overbooked,, and Larry my other instructor "oriental looking guy" had to go represent Q/P at the national freefall convention up by Chicago. I told her i could make that work for me,, so we were set. I called a few people that night and rescheduled my estimates to Sat morning. Did all my estimates Saturday morn, got back home about noon and started making spaghetti sauce. Sometime that afternoon i was called by a friend that had seen the news on the tv of the accident. I was so shocked! I had been scheduled to be on that plane.! I really thought the plane always ran like a clock.. had bailed out of it 18 or 20 times. Robert Walsh was one of my instructors from day 1 at Q/L and i had grown to like him as a friend, and trusted him alot. Scott Cowan, Co-Owner and pilot i knew fairly well also. Melissa Berridge who worked for Claire McCaskill our US Senator from Mo. i had jumped with on 3 occasions,, she was way ahead of me and tried to help me. Hearing about the crash for weeks on tv and radio, i kinda lost my nerve,, and Quantaum Leap was shut down immediatlly after this. Actually not a thing wrong with Skydiving,, this was just a plane crash, but something up above tells me to give up Jumping Here are some articles to read www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-07-29-planecrash_x.htmwww.mysullivannews.com/2009/02/quantum-leap-2006-plane-crash-report-completed-by-ntsb/
